does pets mart or pet-co or any store like that buy hamsters that you have bread?
i am thinking of breeding hamsters when i am older to get a little money. does pets mart or pet co buy them off of you? if not what store does?
No, PetSmart and Petco buy all their animals from huge breeding facilities where the animals are all housed in tiny shoebox sized enclosures and are never handled. If you take your baby hamsters to PetSmart or Petco, they will place them for “adoption” in the front of the store and the first people who want them can take them, usually for free. Most of these animals are picked up as snake food because they are cheaper than buying feeder rats.
If you want to become any sort of respectable responsible hamster breeder, you will have to rehome all the hamsters to their new homes yourself. No ethical breeder uses a middleman like a pet shop to sell all their babies. It’s your job to screen the new homes to make sure they are suitable for a hamster. You will have to make them sign an adoption contract and you will have to be ready to take back any and all hamsters you have bred in case it doesn’t work out with it’s new family. That’s how good hamster breeders operate.
The only stores who buy hamsters from the public are the crappy ones you shouldn’t be shopping at anyways.
You should also know that you can’t just breed any hamster you get from a pet shop. In order to start a good breeding project you should get your hamsters from another ethical breeder who keeps records on them.
