Create an Awesome Summer Play Land for Less Than You Think
Summer months are the ideal time for having fun while the kids are home for a few months. It can get costly taking them places that cost tons of money just to get in such as theme parks. If you’re in a similar predicament as most people are, don’t worry, since there are lots of money-saving fun things to do at home. These ideas are great for the little ones, ages 10 and under. Most of these ideas are centered on learning and activity in tandem.
Everyday Household Items Can Be Used In Your Games
Use everyday items in your play around the house as props for your pretend news stories. A fun activity to do at home is to play hospital. Have the little ones gather a stuffed animal or other toy and then use things from around the home that can serve as pretend surgical instruments. Most homes are chock full of oddly-shaped utensils that can be fashioned into medical kits. You can also do another take on this game by pretending to run a television studio where the news is being reported. A stuffed toy or other toys can be used as part of the creative storylines that you and your child are describing to the pretend listeners.
Go on a Make-Believe Safari
Something really fun to do is to imagine that you’ve traveled to Africa for a safari. Take out large sheets and tie the ends into chairs, the sofa, or to anything in the room that will hold steadily. Cover the blankets so that the kids feel like they are covered by the thick leaves of the Amazon or in the thick brush where the wild animals can’t see them.If you own binoculars, get them out for added fun. Have your kids get together all of the stuffed creatures and animal figures they can find and arrange them throughout the room, partly hidden so you can only see their heads, and then use the binoculars to discover them. Once the kids find each animal, shout out the sound that the animal makes. They always have a blast with this game!
Bring the Fun Outdoors
Another inexpensive, yet really entertaining activity is to go out together for a ride on mountain bikes. If you have younger children, you can tote them along in a trailer attachment where they can be seated in a secured cart. For smaller trips, some younger ones might want to use their electric scooter to get through the ride. To make it even more entertaining, take your time and give the kids things to find along the way, like a treasure hunt. Things like birds, flowers, or squirrels can all be great things for everyone to call out as they spot them. This game also works beautifully on a nature walk and can help kids learn about nature and their environment.
Things to Do After the Sun Sets
As night falls, the fun doesn’t have to stop there! If you have a tent, set it up in the yard somewhere and provide binoculars for they can observe the night skies. If you have a fire pit or a small charcoal barbeque, you can make a campfire out of wood for them. Have the kids gather some tree branches for browning s’mores. If you have several free days this summer, go camping somewhere fun and extend your time outside! These suggestions will surely give you and your kids a fun summer break full of imagination, activity, and learning.
